Bauhaus- 1919- 1933
The Bauhaus was a
school which was founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar in Germany in the year of
the 1919. In this school it was being approached the design and also the
combination of the fine arts and also arts and crafts which were major by the
major of the influence on the development of the graphic design even in the
twentieth century as the modern art. The school was also moved to Dessau in the
1924 but it was forced to close the doors from the Nazi political party in the
1933.
Along with the artist who
his name is Gropius and many other artist and also teachers which are Lazlo
Moholy-Nagy and Herbert Bayer which made significant contributes on the
development of the graphic design. The Bauhaus thought that the typography is a
part of the curriculum and also was an instrumental in the development of
sans-serif typography. These were the favored from all the simplified geometric
forms and also alternative to the heavily ornate in German standard of the
black letter typography.
Some artists that we
can find that had worked in the Bauhaus and worked more in product designs were
Marcel Breuer which is a famous designer and also Wilhelm Wagenfeld.
We can see that the
Bauhaus is not only got inspired on the products but Bauhaus was also inspired
by architects it is because we find a lot of buildings that are inspired from
the Bauhaus. We can also see that the text we find on the building are also
with the style of the Bauhaus.

Marcel Breuer
One of the most
famous artists is Marcel Breuer where he was born in Hungary in the 1902. Marcel Breuer was an architect and also used to
do furniture designs where in the 20th century he became the
greatest one. He also used
to use new material
and also new technologies which these will
develop his International Style of the work. He first studied
in Vienna where he started to study the art after he won a scholarship. He wasn’t
happy with the institute then he decided to find a work at a Vienese
architecture office. He also was a student and also he was a teacher and these happened
in 1920 to 1928 in the Germany’s Bauhaus which was a school of design. While he
was there he completed the carpentry apprenticeship where he managed to design
and also made the African Chair and also the Slatted Chair.
This is the Slatted
chair that it is designed by Marcel Breuer where this particular chair is made out of stained maple
and the back and also the seat were made from the horse hair. For this
particular design he was inspired by the work of Gerrit Rietveld who he
exhibited his furniture in the Bauhaus in the 1921.
When he completed
studying in the Bauhaus he traveled to Paris where he had the chance
to work in an architect office, where then he
became the head of
the carpentry workshop which had to
do with the Bauhaus. He also was given a title which was ‘young
master’.
He also helped to
develop the modular of
the unit construction
which this combines the standardized
units to the forms
which it was
simple but functional. Every designer gets inspired from something where Breuer was inspired from the shapes and also the
forms which these shapes nd forms
are inspired from a
bicycle handlebar, where we can see an piece
that he did that it
is the Wassily Chair which was
done in the 1925. Actually this
design was designer and named for Wassily Kandinsky.

Here we can
see another design and
work that Marcel
Breuer done which
it is called
the Wassily Chair, where
this chair was
made from polished , bent ,
nickelled tubular steel which it later became chrome plated. The seat of this particular
chair was made out of canvas, fabric or leather in black. This particular chair has also been copied by
other designers.
Comments: I really like
the fact that
the materials that
he use are mostly
materials that we don’t
think in using them. In the ergonomics fact I
find
it that this
particular chair is
comfortable to sit and it’s
design and shape looks
like modern and can use
it in various occasions.

He we
can see a
copy of the work
of Marcel Breure
which this chair
which it is
named the same
as the chair
of Breuer was
designed from Alessandro Mendini
